Service Star of the Month

Julie Gufrovich Grimmer, R.N.

On a rainy April morning, Julie Gufrovich Grimmer, R.N., witnessed a horrific accident. When a young boy tried to cross the road to join his stepfather, he stepped into traffic and was struck by an SUV.

Julie immediately stopped to help. When she reached the boy, she noticed he was not breathing, had no pulse, and had suffered facial and head injuries. Acting quickly, Julie began performing CPR. By the time the ambulance arrived, the boy was breathing on his own and had a pulse.

Though the boy ultimately lost his life, Julie’s heroic actions gave his loved ones time to hold his hand and say goodbye. “On that tragic day, Julie reaffirmed what we already knew about her,” says Courtney Vose, emergency department (ED) director, on behalf of her ED colleagues. “She provides her patients the best possible care—whether they are in the ED or in the community.”
